Mara Schiavetto

Mara is a Canadian artist whose richly textured paintings—ranging from abstracts to florals and portraits—are defined by bold colour and dynamic surface treatment. A graduate of OCAD University in Interdisciplinary Studies, she sculpts, scratches, and scribe-marks her surfaces to create layered visual depth. Working in both oil and acrylic, she lets subject dictate medium. Originally from Treviso, Italy, Mara now paints full-time, with works held in collections across North America and Europe.

Working in both oil and acrylic, she lets subject dictate medium. Originally from Treviso, Italy, Mara now paints full-time, with works held in collections across North America and Europe.Whether painting abstracts, florals, landscapes or portraits, Mara’s paintings exude a vibrancy of colour, and achieve visual impact through sculpting, scratching or scribing surfaces, inviting the viewer to experience a rich visual tapestry. She is equally comfortable using oils or acrylics, allowing the subject matter to dictate the preferred medium.

Mara emigrated from Treviso, Italy to settle in Montreal. She began her art studies at McGill University, but later opted to pursue a travel career, relocating to Toronto where she worked and simultaneously attended the Ontario College of Art and Design, graduating in Interdisciplinary Studies. Mara continued to work, while painting and exhibiting extensively, finally becoming a passionate full time artist.
