Joseph Plaskett (1918–2014) was a distinguished Canadian painter whose work evolved from abstraction toward luminous still lifes, interiors and portraits. Trained at the Vancouver School of Art, he later studied with David Park, Clyfford Still, Hans Hofmann and Fernand Léger. Based in Paris from 1960 and later in Suffolk, Plaskett united modernist structure with richly observed colour and light. Appointed to the Order of Canada in 2001, he also established the Plaskett Foundation to support emerging Canadian artists.
