Josee Desharnais was born in Montreal, Canada in 1961. She currently lives and paints in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. She is a contemporary painter with realism influence. Her challenge is to find a good balance between the contemporary style and the realism of the subject.
She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Laval in Quebec. Her technique is based on the principle of painting in layers. She start with a thin colorful back ground and finishes with a rich texture using a mixture of brushes and palette knives. She explores the concept of the focal point of a camera lens which brings deepness in her creation.
She is fascinated with the impact of each season on nature and wildlife, the way they move and interact influence the design, structure and space of her paintings.
Her distinctive style emerges from her previous worked with visual art media like stained glass, photography, graphite and watercolours. The result is her art today shows a perfect balance between light, color, depth, volume and motion in each painting.
For her, producing a good painting is about exploring all the different facets of composition, colour and technique and not just reproducing an image in a photorealistic way.
