Michael Bedford

Michael Bedford is an oil painter living in Toronto, Canada. His paintings explore figuration and still life through a modern lens. He uses quick, expressive brushstrokes, focusing on the physicality of the paint and the duality of light and shadow. Having studied neuroscience and psychology before becoming a painter, he is fascinated by the human psyche and how we live in relation to others and to ourselves. His recent work explores desire, isolation and the Jungian shadow, asking how the promise of a more connected world has left many of us feeling more alone than ever.
