Born in Korea, Jou-Lee earned her BFA at Women’s University, Seoul, and furthered her studies in Montreal. Her work engages a tactile process, applying thick gesso to create dimensional relief. Using oil and encaustic, Jou-Lee’s varied palette shifts from organic tones to vivid hues, guided by an intuitive dialogue with the canvas. Her evolving practice reveals a nuanced exploration of texture and color, reflecting a deep responsiveness to material and narrative.
