Robert Hyndman
Robert S. Hyndman (1915–2009) was a master portraitist and official Canadian war artist. Trained at Toronto Central Technical School and the Central School of Arts and Crafts, London, he combined rigorous draftsmanship with a striking use of light and contrast. His service as a Spitfire pilot in WWII led to his appointment as a war artist, producing enduring portraits of Canada’s military and civic leaders. Over six decades, his work captured the vitality of his sitters and is held in private and corporate collections worldwide.
