Shelley Newman
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Shelley Newman trained in commercial art and fine art studies at OCAD and other Toronto schools. Specializing in oil painting for its luminosity, she focuses on contemporary impressionist landscapes marked by vibrant color and energy. Based in Georgetown since 2011, Newman is an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists and Ontario Society of Artists. Her work is featured nationally and internationally and she maintains an active studio practice.Born in Windsor Ontario, Shelley Newman studied commercial art in college and worked for several years professionally in advertising and design. During this time Shelley continued studying fine art as a part time student at various studios and schools in Toronto including OCAD and was never far from an easel. Working in oils, watercolours, acrylics, printmaking, life drawing and pottery, Shelley would always return to oils because of the richness and luminosity they bring.
Since moving to Georgetown Ontario in 2011 Shelley has been able to focus exclusively on oil painting. She has been in numerous solo, group and juried shows, and is an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Ontario Society of Artists.
Shelley’s contemporary impressionist canvases are filled with joyful, vibrant colour and energy that exemplify her own unique expression of the Canadian Landscape. After a year as Artist in Residence in 2016 at the Red Door Gallery in Georgetown, Shelley became a studio artist at Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre where you can find her working away at a large canvas. Shelley’s originals and prints are enjoyed across Canada, the United states and around the world.
