Born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Nick Leniuk merges technical precision with artistic intuition to create singular stone carvings inspired by nature’s intricate design. Drawing on a deep personal connection to the northern landscape, he developed a unique approach that transforms raw stone into refined organic forms. Based in Peterborough, Leniuk continues to advance this inventive practice.Nick Leniuk was born and raised in the Northern Ontario paper and lumber mill town of Kapuskasing. He left home to explore the big city lights of Toronto and attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Technology in engineering.

An avid kayaker, canoer and hiker, his fascination and appreciation of trees comes from the fact that he and several members of his family owe their livelihood to the forest. This deep connection is further strengthened by his utmost respect and admiration for the multitude of benefits they provide to all of us.

Nicks’ work reflects his belief in the complex global inter-dependency of all life forms and his instinctive nature to find beauty and purpose in all things. Eventually settling in Peterborough Ontario with his family, he combined his artistic and technical skills and personally developed this fresh approach to stone carving of which he believes he is the sole practitioner. Using basic workshop tools, he has been enhancing and refining his inventive stone shaping expertise for over 10 years now.

Nick recently started creating stone representations of imaginary images he sees’ in random patterns – he calls these whimsical, mysterious and thought provoking creations his ‘pareidolia’ pieces.

His work has been in numerous juried shows and can be found in several galleries throughout Ontario. Nicks’ work is solely represented by Koyman Gallery in the Ottawa area.
