She has taught for numerous museums and art societies as well as running her own successful teaching studio for many years in Kleinburg., Ontario. Mary’s love of Folk Art began in her teens with the work of Grandma Moses. “It is the art of the people and I love the simplicity.”

A great deal of the subject matter is based on a very happy childhood, which included many holidays in Montreal. Although primitive artists such as Grandma Moses, Rufus Porter and Maud Lewis had no formal fine art training their message came through loud and clear and the technique is still being perfected by artists like Mary Scattergood today.

“It is my hope that my paintings install in my audience, the same sense of peace and comfort that I experience in creating them.” Mary Scattergood.
