Gina Sarro
Gina Sarro captures the vastness of the Canadian landscape through abstracted marks of colour and form. Trained at Emily Carr and Alberta College of Art and Design, she balances compositional horizontals with rhythmic verticals, layering brush and knife to evoke both stillness and movement. Her technique creates space for personal reflection, inviting viewers to pause, wander, and connect with the landscape's quiet resonance.Painter Gina Sarro captures the vast landscape with her distinct technique, painting skies, mountains, water and fields evoking both flatness and depth. Inspiration
from homes in Saskatchewan, where she was born, and the Alberta foothills, where she completed an Economics degree at the University of Calgary and studied painting
at Alberta College of Art and Design, strongly influence her work. Gina attended the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, where she currently resides.
Her paintings are held in private and corporate collections in Canada, the US and Australia. A donated 13’ triptych graces the Jim Pattison corridor at Vancouver General
Hospital.
Using both a brush and knife, partly to diminish, and partly to layer the paint itself, Gina balances strong compositional horizontals with rhythmic vertical gestures. Abstracted
marks of color come together to create a serene, reminiscent composition. These abstracted marks seem to hold their own little narratives, allowing the viewer to recall
their own personal past experiences out in nature’s pristine landscape. Her vast landscapes allow the viewer to wander throughout the painting, giving pause to take in
the little moments that are captured in each mark, and enticing the viewer to look a little closer, searching to understand the meaning behind her work: a moment of pause
and reflection.
Newly represented by Koyman Galleries, Gina is also currently represented by The Kurbatoff Gallery in Vancouver, BC; Canvas Gallery in Toronto, ON; The Effusion Gallery
in Invermere, BC; The Christopher Hill Gallery in Napa Valley, CA. USA, and The Trippe
Gallery in Easton, Maryland USA.
