From the small waterfront community of Rhoddy's Bay near Braeside, Ontario, Canada, Heather is a mixed media artist and printmaker focusing on abstract and non-representational art. Colour, shape, line, pattern, form and texture are elements of good composition that Heather combines in all of her work. She has an intuitive sense for balanced layout demonstrating good design knowledge.
Heather's work has an intimate and very sophisticated relationship with colour. Her work contains bright jewel tones that pop out with brilliance making walls dance.
Her work spans many disciplines: extensive printmaking techniques, collage and mixed media with her latest works featuring a combination of all these art forms.
Heather completed 2 years at Commerce High School (1988-1990) in the Special Arts Program under well-known Ottawa artist Wilma Pinkus (Drawing and Painting, Life Drawing, Graphic Design, Illustration, Layout and Photography). She also attended the Ottawa School of Art - courses in Pastel Painting, Oil Painting, Linocut Printing, Monoprint and Collage and Intaglio Printmaking. Heather has participated in various workshops in pastel, watercolour, gouache, oil, clay sculpture, collage and mixed media, and she studied at the Handprint Studio, Harrogate, U.K. under English Printmaker Peter Wray in various methods of non-toxic etching and collagraph printmaking.
